PERU! The Inca Heartland & Sacred Valley

September 17 – 23

Peru is famous for its diversity of gorgeous sights and experiences for the traveler – the power of its Inca heritage, its world-renowned textiles, its contemporary culinary prowess, the beauty of its mountains and wildlife. For our trip we have chosen to base ourselves both in the gorgeous city of Cusco (a UNESCO World Heritage site), as well as the surrounding “Sacred Valley “ – the stunning region of the country which was the very heart of the Inca Empire. While Machu Picchu is the most famous Inca stronghold we will visit, we are fortunate to spend several nights nestled at the base of the monumental site of Ollantaytambo – a cross road of the Inca Empire. The village of Ollataytambo is, in fact, a spectacular "living" Inca town, parts of which remain almost unchanged despite the passage of centuries. The richness of the Sacred Valley also includes the many villages dotting the countryside – venues you might not discover or be able to see on your own. Peru has the largest population of indigenous peoples in South America, with almost half of its approximate 28 million people being of native descent. The Sacred Valley is home to the Quechua peoples whose amazing and historically significant weaving, knitting and embroidery have been famous for centuries. A cultural highlight of the trip! Rooms double occupancy, private baths at in both our Cusco and Sacred Valley boutique hotels.
